myself, I prefer to buy the garlic bulb, no special type, I then peal and crush the whole bulb into a 1 litre jug add cold water and store in the fridge, when I need to change the birds water I pour any where from an eighth to a quarter of a cup into the 5 litre water jug, at first they don't like the smell or taste, but do get use to it, when I pick up a bird and can smell garlic on their breathe, I know it is strong enough.
The garlic juice in the 1 litre jug in the fridge saves time and getting your hands smelling like garlic all the time.
If you buy Pre-crushed, make sure it is curded with a cold process, as garlic looses it's good value's when heated.
Good luck

Great advice above, My preferred method of use is cold pressed garlic oil on the feed, about a table spoon to a quart can of feed mix it up until all seeds are coated them sprinkle a quarted cup of Brewers Yeast pwder on top.

Be very careful giving garlic to often to birds who do not get out and exercise. The oil gland at the base of the rump can "plug" up with the use of to much garlic, particularly in breeders who do not exercise regularly.

This oil gland produced an oil which is what the bird preens themselves with to protect their feathers.

Hello all,
I personally take 3or 4 cloves of fresh garlic, one average size carrot, half average size onion.
Put all in a food blender and mix it well. add a liter of water and leave it overnight in the refrigerator.
Next morning with that mixture I make 5 liter of drinking water and give it to my birds.
I do this twice a week.

If you put em' in the water they dont drink it! And after a few hours the smell is terrible! How can pigeons drink such a thing? Just cut a small piece of it and put it straight inside the beak. DONE!

Every wednesday in the water, take the water out late afternoon and after there nite feed pet garlic water in they will all take a drink one fed then take it straight out an put fresh water in it onlt takes one sip to help flush the system ignore all these other coments anyone who has time to put a piece of garlic down every pigeons gizzed has far to much time on there hands I AM A WORKING MAN so I don't have time to do tha

Gurbir 'Birdman' Brar

I've heard that you should give it in the water 2 days in a row in order for it to be really effective. What the ideal thing to do would be apple cider vinegar monday, tuesday, clean water wednesday, garlic water thursday and friday, and clean water again saturdau and sunday. The clean water in between the acv and garlic cleans out the system

Amanda Mitchell

Half a clove, 2 litres rain water! Steep overnight! Give two hrs after feeding. Just watch downs fly outta them! ;)

Every other week on shipping day during racing. Every week on sunday during off season. In the water always.

I would blend the fresh organic garlic and pour it into ice trays. I used one cube, about a dozen cloves, in a one gallon waterer several days in a row every week.

Wes Lamons

Garlic Powder in there water everyday.
And no it dose not have a bad smell to it.
I'm not sure what a couple of you are saying.
But it works for me I've been successful.

Brett Evans

half a dozen fresh organic garlic cloves crushed in the press to a paste poured into a small bottle with 200 ml rain water,I keep it in the fridge..and use 10-15ml to 4 liters of water once a week..I've mixed it with apple cider vinegar and honey to make it more palatable..

Phillip Badenhorst

Garlic oil 2 times a week over food

Trish Battersby

I cut a clove into 3 litre container, I use orange juice bottles, and fill with warm water, to help it steep. Dont use hot water or it will take a nutrients out of the garlic. Leave over night. I make 3 of these, one for each cage that I have and in the morning I fill each drinking container with 3 litres or garlic water. The birds will drink the garlic water after their morning feed if that is all the water you provide. In the evening I wash out the container and provide fresh water. I do this for 2 days in a row. Gurbir "birdman" above has a good routine and similar to mine except that what ever I put in the water in the morning they get fresh water in the evening.
