  1. I think it’s dieing because I joined this year and two fanciers offered me birds as the youngest at 24 in my fed I thought I might get offered more. Not that I’m a charity case as I am willing to buy but I thought people looked out for the youth starting especially nowadays.

  2. I think the clubs are sexist old-fashioned and out dated and way tomany people at the top of the club give bad advice on breading and whatnot to newcomers trying to focus on how the pigeon feels in the hand how good the eyes look, let the basket choose the best birds for stock not the eyes nor its looks I mean yeah you need a good balance in a bird but that doesn’t mean its going to be a top 2% bird let the basket dictate how good the bird is also a bit of advice to the novice don’t over use treatments you need vigor in your birds not poshions its also a lot cheaper but canker! Always treat for canker

    1. Hi all pigeon lovers it is not selling books or selling experience it is on the job training to the younger generation take him to the loft show him /her how to do the basic thinks right, get a youngster to clean the loft and the same time give training for free, make him /her excited on race day and by this way we will get our younger generation away from the TV and get them where the older pigeon fanciers can lay a good foundation for the sport of pigeon racing in the world

  3. I know in ourclub the OLD GUYS DO NOT !!!! want to change. They are not forward thinkers and change will up-set their comfort zone. They are self centered people of the old school !!! And you can’t get them to do shit !!!! All they want to do is come in, ship their birds, and see the results !!

  4. I’M JUST GETTING INTO THE SPORT,I hope more people gets started. After 20+ years in the Game chicken business and it’s downfalls, two hip surgeries and just hit 60 years old I plan to make a real go at this. My younger years was lived very fast and wasn’t in one spot long enough for a piegon to even figure where his home was,but I’ve always admired the sport. Now I just got to aquire the right blood line to get me kick started.

  5. It is true it does cost a lot to get into pigeon racing, and probably is the major reason a young person cannot get started.

the second reason it is disheartening is they are immediately competing against the well established rich flyers. So they are beat very easy.

when I was 10 my dad got us some pigeons we were content to see them come home and hauled them all over and released them. later My brother found out about racing them.

I think if the same approach was used on the youth it would work let them ship and watch their birds come home no competition. only bragging rights of my birds came home.

Then if they want to get competitive get the clock and compete The great athletes do not start by going for the Olympics, but by competing with the other kids on the block then in school and those that excel go for the bigger races. but every one remembers his small successes as if they were the Olympics.

It is true the younger generation is computer oriented as that is all they have been taught, But teach a boy/girl something new and they really take hold. There are those that still have the competive urge it only has to be stimulated.

    let them learn without defeat.

    1. That is a very good Idea! Let a young person ship birds with the race birds. We have Junior member status for young people but my son’s shipping of his birds comes out of my limited quantity of 30 birds per race which I’d rather not do. AND “His Birds” did not really seem to be His Birds as they were in the same small loft, which I couldn’t really do anything about anyway.
If a young person was started out with their own small loft kit, their own birds AND was able to at least send them and fly them with the other members birds – this might actually inspire a young person to do something other than computers, games, texting.
Maybe a limit on the number of birds the young person can send.
Maybe an age limit on Junior Member.
Maybe shipping cost covered by the club if their parent is not a club member.
AND depending on if the club can do it or not Maybe a loaner clock – unofficial but started and provided with rubber markers/bands or whatever so the junior member can at least see where his birds would have come in with the other members birds.

  6. sadly I think the pigeon racing sport is dying. The young people today are more concerned about being in front of a computer and being involved in interactive games. Also too, many governments are listing pigeons as an invasive species, outlawing the racing sport. By the end of this century, I think the pigeon racing sport will be gone

  7. hi i am from pondycherry state ,in our state racing pigeons are welcomed by all youngsters, but no one having good racing bloodlines, pls help me to get good bloodline
    thanks

  8. the money the kids can afford the birds can afford the clocks it’s hard for a new member to get started
for a new member to get Birds the cost way too much the good birds you get some Birds for the kids but one race and they lose they they’re not interested anymore.
