What Can Fanciers Do To Help The Pigeon Racing Sport Grow?

Pigeon Racing GrowthLast weeks discussion of the week we asked what you thought the current state of pigeon racing was? alarmingly the general consensus seemed to be that the sport of pigeon racing was dying and the main reason fanciers felt this way seemed to be cost. The Pigeon Insider has fanciers from all over the globe so it was pretty interesing to see some of our friends from other parts of the world say that the sport was growing. Maybe we can learn from each other and get the pigeon racing sport to grow universally all around the world by learning what each one of us are doing.

So in this weeks discussion of the week we would like to know?

What do you think fanciers can do to help the pigeon racing sport grow?

Post your comments on what you think each one of us can do to help promote the sport, also let us know if you have any ideas on how to lower costs etc. If your in an area where the sport is on the rise post your comments and let other fanciers know what has worked in your area.

We will be forwarding all of your comments to pigeon racing organizations around the world, Hopefully; together we can help the sport grow universally around the world.

  1. Pigeon Racing is dying in the UK ,because some greedy rich breeders pay top money for birds from Belguim & Holland ,race on the widowhood system ,Top Foods & Drugs clocking in Electronic systems clock 7or 8 birds in take the first 8 positions in the clubs & feds ,have a top loft manager ,most are situated on the East Side of The Nationals , Feds & Clubs ,for prevailing west winds , no respect whatsoever for the The Pensioner ,Young People , Low Wage Earners No Wonder These are Leaving The Sport , It is the Big Money Breeders Killing The Sport ,Well its no longer a Sport ,Its a Massacare ,Do you think poor people will keep giving you there hard earned bit of cash ,to be depressed every saturday night ,Pigeon Racing used to be a Sport where every Dog had its Day & won a Little – I was reading a So called – One millionaire Bigheaded Top Breeder from LONDON ,say we won Every Prize in the Local Club They Stoped having a Annual Prize Distribution – & Folded Local Pigeon Clubs – Well BULLY FOR YOU – PIGEON RACING R.I.P.

  2. The better pigeon fanciers should be helping out the younger fanciers, than keeping them in the lower ranks. The better fanciers could be putting on talks with the general public, to try to put the word out there about pigeon racing.

  3. Dear friends I see this sports called pigeons keeping a very good hobby .And belive me in India it is verry verry big all over the Country..At the movement we all are getting reddy for the high flying race .Called The World Cup which is on the 18 May 2014 For 11 Birds .The most important thing what I feel is keep in touch with every one who we can TRUST which is good for all of us ect.Again What I feel keep things very simple as what I meen is keep few guys who we can trust as in India every one whants to be the best. And TO be the best we all have to work very hard.I love this hobby and will keep loveing it no matter what .

  4. Hi Chrise in most. Areas fanciers are giving up the Hawks are killing there pigeons there is nothing being done when a good pigeon gets killed fanciers get hart broken to get young fanciers in pigeon racing I say the fed and all the clubs should make a young fanciers club so members can get there children involved in the sport it would be a good idea let him or her choose the youngsters they like to race this may help for this beautiful sport thanks aron

  5. I think should be taught just how amazing these birds are (ie the ablility to return home from 1000 km away) Once people appreciate the ability of these birds their respect grows & with that more interest is shown in racing pigeons.

  6. Most people do not let pigeon fanciers put loft’s in their area, because they only associate
pigeons with the birds they see in the street’s and are n ot aware of the difference I recently showed pictures of fancy pigeons and racing hoers and they didn’t realize they were pigeons. The public need to be more educated.

  7. I think they’re many ways of helping the pigeon sport. First of all we all need to help each other. When someone new enters the sport help them. If it means giving up some of your best birds so be it! If you need to tell him your system so be it!

  8. Because budgets are low, with respect to advertising and marketing, the sport needs either a marketing agency or a marketing person whose chief priority would be to gain local news coverage with our ever expanding one loft races, or simply with our current clubs, whether they are 10 members or 100 members. We each have a story to tell to a local news outlet, whether in print, on-line or on TV. If we can inspire 1/10th of 1 percent of all the people who may see or read the stories in the coming months, I feel the sport will see a surge in participation. And because of our median age within the sport, appealing to younger audiences via twitter, facebook, etc. will also be helpful.
