I joined my first club in N. California last year. The long-time members of the club say that the sport is declining. As members die, few join. One of our members said that he has seen wagering/gambling ruin some clubs. There is apparently a lot of this involved in one-loft racing. This can be an expensive sport for the serious fancier, with the cost of the new clocks, flock care, training and loft maintenance. In Europe, unlike the USA, the whole family gets involved, helps out, and passes the sport on to the next generation. This does not happen as much in the USA, it seems. I am involved in the sport because I admire the animal, the strain, the breed, whatever you want to call it. Since I am new to the racing aspect, I cannot evaluate the system. But, usually, when a company, industry or government declines, it is due to a lack of leadership at the top………;)
Hi Chris,
Pigeon sport it’s expanding in East Europe especially in my country Romania but in the rest of the Europe that’s true the pigeon racing it’s in decline !,was good ideea to have a pigeon racing site where the beginners can come in contact with all the information they need about this wonderful sport but I’m still hoping Chriss will change his mind and will make this great site ” free” again! All the best!

“RACING PIGEON”
i think racing pigeon is a game and its not easy to take care of…
for breedings,,fliers and for the youngsters and for there maintenance such as nutrition, training, health care, motivation, ect. all seem to have as many opinions about them as you have pigeons.
I thing in my country (Malta) pigeon sport is in the decline because there are few young people getting into the our hobby.
I think its on the rise.I share all my thoughts with my friends about these little athletes.Like Craig said I also suggest them to watch videos on youtube. After office hours I spend my all time with my Pigeons when they visit my home jenerally I am busy with my birds. When thay ask me about my pigeons then I show him my collections of racing pigeons videos. I think that the sport is growing in Pakistan everybody that i know that flies pigeons and they all enjoy it.
Pigeon racing never die. It`s d first man knowledege, that noah used, by relising d dove 2 race 4 his surival, living earth. Since then, man allways had his doves, beside him 4 comunication entertament, couse d world was lacking in development. To-day, d world developed, with rules and regulations, that i think , not only pigeon racing is decline, but d world as we know it, is. But i still say, that d pigeons, will out live us all. tks.
dito sa pilipinas maganda ang racing pigeon marami ang nakaka bonding, kayalang marami ang madamot sa kaalaman lalo na pag malakas ang pigeon nila, they always keeping secret in the bloodline, pero marami ang interasado ngayon sa pag aalaga ng racing pigeon.
I think its a great sport ,hobby, whatever you may see it as. an i also think its on the rise,at least i think it is. I hear alot more people talking about it than i used to.Like Craig said earlier i also release some of my birds around parks or in public places, it seems to draw alot of attention,an people start to ask alot of questions. I know that from a couple of people ive talked to about the sport they now have birds of there own. There’s no better advertisement on our sport than the word of mouth.an i will always continue to tell people an my friends about our little athletes of the sky..
I share with all my friends how amazing these little athletes are. I suggest they watch videos on youtube. When I take my birds on training tosses a lot of times it’s in public areas so inevitably somebody will come up and ask about them. Especially kids are fascinated by how fast they fly and how they can find their way home. I always carry feathers with me and give them to the kids.
Hey Crag, that’s an awesome idea to toss your birds in public places! And giving feathers to the kids is great I never thought of that. Thanks for sharing! π
Yours in the sport,
Chris
