How Would You Classify Your Knowledge of Pigeons?

Hey,

I hope your enjoying the website, as much as I am enjoying making it! 🙂 and I really want to get to know you better, I also really want to get a good feel of your comfort level with pigeons this way we can continue to bring you more informative content that better suits your needs.

So in this weeks discussion of the week I would like to know…

If you had to classify your knowledge of pigeons how would you classify yourself? would you classify yourself as a beginner, intermediate, advanced or expert? and why would you classify yourself as that?

It would also be great if you can add into your comments how long you have been involved with pigeons as well for example 1year, 20years etc.

So go ahead and post your comments by clicking here.

I am really looking forward to hearing from you and getting to know you better!

Yours in the sport,
-Chris

  1. i have raced pigeons for 65 yrs with quite a lot of success including winning 3 x scottish nationals but i would not dare to classify myself as i am still learning and any pigeon fancier is only as good as his next race

  2. Start to have pigeons in 2003 and my first competitions were in 2004, and really INICE zero, am a resident in Guadalajara, Mexico, and had not recorded because of my work, and achieved some success mainly in the Fund and the United Fund, for example I have since 2010 and now compete not ever want to retake it but starting from the basics and do things to stop doing before, starting with a better ventilation of the loft and make things more sencilas, without much improvisation, less medication, better method applied and above all more joy in practicing the pigeon, and fortunately I found this site, with what little I have read has been serving to clarify doubts and to know better how to handle my pigeons that I hope my future compete in October 2012 greetings and thanks for the information.

    1. I have had pigeons off and on for more than 35 years, so have a fair bit of experience, and have had a couple of top racers over the years. I was a racehorse jockey when I was younger so I treat them like little racehorses. I only ever have a very few birds, but try to get the very best I can find.

I hate a dirty loft, and big lofts full of wild pigeons are not my thing. I like a small team of tame, carefully fed and cared for pigeons. I can get more pleasure from a small loft than a big loft that is too time consuming to care for properly.

      1. i like that concept for two reason one i know little to nothing about the sport .and it keeps the cost down

  3. im very much a beginner but i learned just 2 days ago 2/21/12 how to deal with hawks around the house and near buy fields in view and that is get a mirror and shin it at the hawk or eagle and they don’t like it at all and fly far away .. i let my birds out that day for the first time figuring if they don’t come back oh well and the hawks started right away so i did the mirror trick and away the hawks went . the only problem with this is you need to be out side the whole time your birds are out but trust me it works … if you know where the hawks hang out try it first

  4. i have only been doing pigeons for a couple of years so i would class myself as a beginner, half the fun is learning and listerning to people.

  5. hi chris. i’m a newbie had birds with my brother when we where young.he carried on with sport/hobby and now some 25 years latter i’ve got the bug again but only in a small way (8boxes and room for 20 yb’s).i enjoy the site keep it up…..go joe

    1. I started with feral pigeons as a farm boy, and got into racing pigeons, only to drop out during puberty. I tried getting back into the hobby after the kids were grown, but the flock was wiped out by hawks before my first race. I enjoy the hobby/sport vicariously through others, but dream about starting again.

  6. i have had pigeons most of my life over 40 yrs i do know a lot about them. but i still learn new things about them almost every day. i do not think i will ever know every thing about them i do share my knowlage about them with other members in our club. if they are in need of help. if you think that you know every thing about them you are very wrong

  7. i would classify my knowledge of pigeon as a beginner, cause i only started for over ayear now.and ithink i have much to learn from the experts specially from you chris.i just started training my pigeon last month.and i applied for membership in our club to be able to join the north race here in the philippines.and i just hope my pigeons will perform well this season.thanks for the tips igot from pigeon insider.
